A Teeny Tiny Wish

there’s still plenty of time to join the december penny black and more challenge where we’d like you to use black and white plus one other colour this month.

copyright-lindasnailzpace-wordpress-com-penny-black-tiny-wish-2

i coloured this cute cat from the penny black ‘in the garden’ clear stamp set with twinkling H2Os, not a lot of colouring needed, stamped a sentiment from the penny black ‘tiny wishes’ stamp set and added glossy accents to the ladybug.

i hope you’ll come and play along – remember, you can use any company’s stamp for your focal point, just no digis please; a future guest designer will be selected from those who use a PB image and as always, there are some fabulous prizes to be won from: Penny Black, Marianne, Crafty Ribbons.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 10 Second Edition

i couldn’t resist making one more tag for the day 10 colour palette that i love:

day-10-2016

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com day 10 twelve tags ellen hutson 2016 second edition

my inspiration for this tiny tag was both designers, Heather Meeson and Kryssi Ng, who created scenes with some greenery and an animal.

i coloured on kraft with albrecht durer watercolour pencils, used adorable images from the memory box bunny wishes set, die cut with a lawn fawn tag die and finished it off with twine.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 12

i made it to day 12 and the inspiration is a different colour palette that i found very challenging but now that i finished my tag i might use these colours again.

day-12-2016

i was inspired by both day 12 designers to create this tag: i loved the stripes, greenery and focal point on Carolyn Peeler’s tag and i also loved the die cut joy sentiment that Angie Backman used.

i painted the stripes with a blue twinkling H2O and mixed my own colours of twinks to paint the poinsettias and added some tan coloured pearls; the wplus9 joy sentiment was die cut from kraft and layered.

Bunny Wishes In Pink

i made this card for my daughter to give to her general practice veterinarian who provides excellent care for her bunny.

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com christmas bunny-1

i painted these adorable images from the memory box bunny wishes set, apparently retiring, with twinkling H2Os and die cut with the matching dies. the lbackground was created with magenta nuance powder which was then embossed with the taylored expressions snow embossing folder.

i added the memory box jingle bell border across the top and some shimmery paper at the bottom, die cut with MFT snow drift dies.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 11

the day 11 tag inspiration is a really challenging one for me, but i love that this 12 tags challenge forces me to create outside of my comfort zone.

day-11-2016

i love designer Anna Wight’s tree shaped tag; although i don’t have any similar tree dies, i think this Darcie’s tree stamp works for the theme. (must be retired) i die cut with the paper smooches stitched tag die, coloured with albrecht durer watercolour pencils and added red stickles to the heart. i die cut a second layer and attached it with twine.

Product Review – Die Cutting Machines

for my second monthly product review, i’d like to mention a machine many of us paper crafters use every time we create.

i first started die cutting with a portable machine but die cutting became painful with my hands so i stopped embossing and using dies. after some research and considering online reviews, i bought a sizzix big shot that was so much more comfortable to use; it enabled me to use dies and embossing folders more frequently.

the handle alone made a big difference; the larger size with rounded edges are easy to grip and crank. i also like the longer platform to place the sandwiches on and i actually like the weight of the machine – it stays put.

portability doesn’t concern me because i wouldn’t be able to carry any machine around.

why not other machines?

suction is lost, allowing for movement of the machine, handles are small, have squared off edges that are difficult to grasp, and some have no platforms so the weight of the ‘sandwich’ must be borne by my hands and i would have to manipulate it entering and exiting the machine. i considered an electric machine, but a push button requires constant pressure that may cause further damage to already damaged joints.

one manufacturer demonstrated the ease of its machine online, so i telephoned to explain the risk of further joint damage but the rep was dismissive and insisted that if a young child could operate it, i should be able to.

making assumptions about one’s abilities is a stereotypical attitudinal barrier; what i need might be different for someone else, even another paper crafter with RA.

dismissing constructive and helpful feedback that would improve usability and universal access is just poor customer service.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 10

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 9 Second Edition

i used the colour palette for the day 9 tag and leftover bits of my larger tag to create a small set of tags:

my little tags were inspired by designer Sharon Harnist, who challenged participants to combine frosty white with beautiful metallic gold and/or silver, to create a classic elegant holiday tag! Sharon included a tree with a present on her tag and she also provided a couple of lovely inspiration photos of trees and presents so that’s what i went with. i die cut taylored expressions presents from gold and silver mirri and attached them to a white paper with gold threads.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 9

it’s a different colour palette for the day 9 tag and one that i usually find very challenging:

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 8

the inspiration for day 8 is my favourite technique of all and one that i use almost every time i create:

day-8-2016

i love the colourful inspiration by artist Margaret Berg, who paints outside the lines beautifully, and designer Carly Tee Minner’s interpretation of it so that was my inspiration for my tag.

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com day 8 twelve tags ellen hutson 2016-1

i painted the lawn fawn stitched circle tag with winsor and newton watercolour paints and added snow. after i die cut the lawn fawn trees i painted them with twinkling H2Os, added stickles and finished it off with two ribbons.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 7

the challenge for the day 7 tag is a sketch:

i was inspired by Melania Deasy’s elegant gold glitter tag.

this was a quick and easy tag and i finally used some of this gold/brown printed mirri paper that’s been in my stash for some time; it was already cut in strips so i just attached five of them to a base cut with a paper smooches tag die and added ribbon and twine.

any tips for taking photos of creations with mirri would be greatly appreciated.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 6

the day 6 theme is a beautiful colour palette:

day-6 day-6-colour

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com day 6 twelve tags ellen hutson 2016-1

both Day 6 designers Lisa Adametz & Jill Foster used the colours and focused on outdoor wintery scenes so i was inspired to create a wintery look with this cute penny black image.

i painted the sky and this cutie with twinkling H2Os and added snow, glossy accents to her nose and berries and stickles to her hat; the mat is a shimmer purple paper.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 5

the day 5 theme, frozen, perfectly fits today’s weather – only our second snowfall, but it looks like a blizzard again.

my tag was inspired by designer Brandi Kincaid’s tag and her white circle, greenery and blue gems. my loose interpretation is that this transparent paper reminded me of the greenery and gems and all i added was a white glitter die cut snowflake and finished it off with a bow and twine.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 4

i’m up to day 4, which is another technique challenge: felt. store bought felt shapes are the only ones i’ve ever used since i’ve not had much success die cutting it myself – until now.

Jennifer McGuire used die cut felt embellishments on a textured background so that’s what inspired me.

i die cut the tiny hero arts trees from green felt, added garlands of hologram stickers and attached each to a watercolour background that was die cut and embossed.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 3

the inspiration for the day 3 tag is a new to me technique to use foil:

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com day 3 twelve tags ellen hutson 2016

i was inspired by Carissa Wiley’s tag and her cute snowman with strips of foil added to her design.

this was my first attempt to use foil and it was fun. i used a laminator after i printed the Lilyboo Designs Digital Stamp – Ho HoHo from buddly crafts and used foil on scor pal tape for the strip and attached it to a gold mirri base.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 2

the Day 2 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist theme is glitter; i love the look but not the mess, which is why i usually use stickles even if the bottles are hard to squeeze with my hands.

both talented designers Julia Stainton & Kay Miller used circle shapes to either feature a glittery image or as a tag shape so i was inspired to create a tiny simple circle tag. i die cut a house from the back of the teal designer paper from my day 1 tag and covered it with double sided adhesive paper and crystal ritz glitter.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 1

i created another tag for Day 1 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist using the colour palette of red, teal, green and pink:

http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/the_classroom_new/2016/12/12-tags-of-christmas-with-a-feminine-twist-2016-meets-mix-it-up-challenge-day-1-by-laurel-beard-and-.html

i was inspired by both Laurel Beard and Sandy Allnock, who coloured images for their festive tags.

this time i painted a cute penny black image (love at xmas) with twinkling H2Os and winsor & newton watercolour paints. the background is painted with teal and i used a teal paper for the base; of course i added stickles for the snow and around the edge of the image and i added white flocking for the fur trim. the sentiment is a gold peel off that i coloured with a red permanent marker.

It’s Snowing!

i just finished this card in time for the inspired by all the little things challenge; this week the talented silke ledlow is featured and this is the adorable inspiration photo:

35

i was delayed at a doctor’s appointment and by the time we left it was like a blizzard with our first snowfall. of course it was too dark to take a photo so i used my daylight lamp which is almost too bright; on the upside, less editing to brighten it up.

i painted everything with twinkling H2Os and winsor & newton watercolour paints and i added stickles for the snow. this was one of the first snowman images i bought; the set is still available through a different company here in canada at frog’s whiskers (scroll to page 2 since i can’t isolate the link).

Jingle All The Way – Mixing It Up And Day 1 Tag

i’m off to a slow start, but i managed to create a tag for both Ellen Hutson’s December Mix It Up Challenge and Day 1 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist.

http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/the_classroom_new/2016/12/12-tags-of-christmas-with-a-feminine-twist-2016-meets-mix-it-up-challenge-day-1-by-laurel-beard-and-.html

since both Laurel Beard and Sandy Allnock used coloured images on their festive tags, i was inspired to do the same.

i painted everything with winsor & newton watercolour paints, using a light wash of teal in the background and it’s also used to create an ombre sentiment from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, All Inside by Julie Ebersole. i love Maude, an older Art Impressions cling stamp; i added pink stickles to her curlers and glossy accents to the smiley face.
